How I discovered the true source of foot-and-mouth

WHEN I go outside there is a wonderful morning chorus of wild birds and that lovely colour of grass growing.
It seems incredible that I must already think of searching for the battery charger to try and persuade the lawn mower that winter is over.

One rule for big boys, one rule for the rest

WHEN I picked up my morning newspaper, I was surprised to read the headline, “I’m sorry - but this has not been of our making”.
This claim, by turkey tycoon, Bernard Matthews, must surely rank as one of the most inappropriate headlines of the year.

Perhaps there is a silver lining to the bird flu crisis

JUST as you thought this crisis was over, it all blows up again.
Last week minister David Miliband assured us all is under control, he managed the situation well and his actions were appropriate.
We now know that he got it all wrong.

AFTER the hysterical reaction of the national newspapers on Sunday to the discovery of bird flu in this country, Monday was a bit like the good old days of farm scares.

Bird flu: we've been here before....

IT WAS almost exactly seven years ago that we first heard about the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Northumberland.
As an active farmer then, I did not think it would affect me here in North Wales.
